About The Event
Biodynamics II - Circuitry of the Spirit
This class examines the nature of the human nervous system, with special focus on the architecture and function of its autonomic components. Stephen Porge’s polyvagal theory has ushered in a new understanding of how our sense of self is wired into the tissues of the body. His new concept of the “social nervous system” is explored along with a reinvisioning of the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches. The significance of stress and trauma on the biology and spirit is closely examined in this class. The student is given a strong foundation of practical tools for mitigating the effects of stress and trauma in their own lives and the lives of their clients.
Key topics include: basic neuroanatomy, autonomic function in light of Porge’s polyvagal theory, neurobiology of trauma, the work of Peter Levine, affective neuroscience, clinical skills for working with trauma
